Welcome to the City of Playford, home to over 70,000 people, base for the production of the Holden motor vehicle, host to the Bulldogs - Central District Football Club and manufacturing and horticultural industry leader with the Virginia horticultural industry producing the best freshest products available. Named in honour of Sir Thomas Playford, one of the State's greatest leaders, the City has much to offer residents, investors and people seeking leisure, recreation, education, employment and social activities.

The Playford District Council is the most northern Local Government area of metropolitan Adelaide and covers an area of  346 square kilometres. The area supports a myriad of land uses, including commercial, residential, horticultural, industrial, manufacturing and open space.

There is a blend of housing throughout Playford District Council and urban development continues to spread with the establishment of new housing estates offering affordable housing in Andrews Farm, Blakeview, Craigmore and Hillbank. Many of the earlier established areas of Playford are earmarked for revitalisation.

With approximately one fifth of the Playford area consisting of open space, Council invests significant resources to maintain and develop a range of passive recreational reserves throughout the city, including Fremont Park, Jo Gapper Park and Stebonheath Park, as well as conservation areas including Para Wirra Recreational Park and Humbug Scrub Wildlife Sanctury further enhances the City.

The Regional Centre for the north offers major shopping facilities, major hospital and health services. Regency Institute of TAFE offers quality tertiary education and training programs for industry in the Playford area. There are a range of educational options with special focus public secondary schools and private schools available
