Information about the Playford region

The original inhabitants of the Playford area were the Kaurna Aboriginal people whose ancestors lived and hunted throughout the Adelaide region.

In 1847, white settlers began growing wheat and hay  and some early townships like Angle Vale sprang up. After World War, there was significant industrial expansion and many European migrants helped establish the satellite town of Elizabeth. Established in the time of South Australian Premier, Sir Thomas Playford, and opened by Queen Elizabeth on one of her visits, Elizabeth is the main hub of the area and includes an extensive shopping area and business precinct. The Lyell McEwen Hospital serves the northern suburbs of Greater Adelaide.
